Solving Computer Cases

Finding the right computer case is much more simple than it really sounds. Instead of finding a good computer case and then figuring out how to get your equipment into it, work the other way around!

First identify your needs as a computer user. Do you burn many CD-R's or DVD+R's? Do you need extra hard drives? To you want a mirror hard drive for back-ups? What about audio or video cards? How cool should your machine be? All of these are good questions to answer before searching for the right case.

I recommend finding a case that is large enough to accommodate future additions but one that has a small footprint, one that also takes up little space around your work area.

I need added RAM slots for more memory and 2 - 4 slots for hard drives. I like to keep my software and operating system on one drive and my files on the other. This is almost guaranteed virus protection. This set up allows me to simply format my OS drive and start fresh without losing any files.

I also need a lot of ventilation. The cooler my PC the better it will run and the longer it will last. A large fan with ventilation slots are a plus while a good heat sink over the CPU is also very helpful.

In short, buy a case that suits your needs both internally and externally. Be sure that you can fit all of your components easily with more room for additions later. Temperature is very important, so be sure the case has good ventilation and a solid fan system. On the outside, what ever you like is the right thing for you. Good hunting!
