Notebook Computer Security Devices

Here are some notebook computer security tips - or leave your tips at the bottom of this page.

Everybody worries about keeping their computer safe, but people with notebook computers are extra concerned about notebook computer security.

For people with notebook computers, security is more than making sure someone doesn’t hack into the system, it is also about keeping the actual computer from being stolen. One of the benefits of having a laptop is that you can carry it with you. But the downside is that you have to be very careful if you don’t want somebody to walk away with it.

Here are a few products that can help you with your notebook computer security needs:

Kensington Master Lock Universal Notebook Security Lock Model 64032D

One popular product is the Kensington Master Lock Universal Notebook Security Lock Model 64032D. It sells for $36.99 and promises to keep the computer safe to prevent it from being stolen. This lock works with a Kensington security slot that is industry standard and the lock is threaded with a galvanized steel cable. The cable is six feet long, so you can secure the notebook to just about anything. The lock itself is a standard key lock.

VANTEC Notebook Security Combination Lock Set Model NBL-S200

Another lock you might consider is the VANTEC Notebook Security Combination Lock Set Model NBL-S200 . This model is less expensive than the Kensington model and retails for $16.99. The lock gets bolted into your notebook’s Serial or VGA port and you secure your computer with the seventy eight inch PVC coated cable and the zinc alloy base plate and lock housing. This lock is a combination lock and there are ten thousand combinations you can choose from—the combination can be changed whenever you want.

The BELKIN Notebook Security Lock Model F8E550 is another choice if you are trying to find a notebook computer security anti-theft device. This lock sells at $17.99 This lock is simple — attach the cable dock onto your computer and run the cable through. While Belkin provides a lock, you might feel safer using your own lock and the lock’s hinge is easily viewable, but is still strong. People who have purchased this lock like it because it is simple to install and works well as a theft deterrent.

Targus DEFCON Notebook & iPod Lock Combo Set Model ASP13US

If you want something that has more bells and whistles, you might try the Targus DEFCON Notebook & iPod Lock Combo Set Model ASP13US. This lock is $34.99. This lock will attach to your iPod as well as to your notebook, provided the iPod has a dock connector. The lock provides 10,000 possible combination codes. The cable is vinyl coated to keep from scratching surfaces or your notebook.
